search problem

The board is responding with an error message when I attempt to search:

"connection to 65.60.41.218:9312 failed (errno=110, msg=Connection timed out)"

Same error if the search result is for threads or posts.

Agreed ! There hasn't been an improvement on the search feature IMO... Like GM says I use google too..

I have yet to get a single search result using this feature. If I may say so, It just plain Stinks !

If you contimuously get the same web adress number popping up no matter which site you're trying to go to, likely it is the server that is the issue. Sometimes when this happens with me I'll also empty my brwoser cache- do a disk cleanup- as well. That's my thoughts...

The search feature has been working pretty well as far as I could tell up until (some time around) yesterday (or so). I would do a search for "light diaphragm" for example and multiple threads would display in search results with the words "light" and "diaphragm" highlighted where they occurred in each thread. Seemed to be fine. This is a brand new problem. Now the search function has gone from a working state to being completely broken with the only search result being "connection to 65.60.41.218:9312 failed (errno=110, msg=Connection timed out)".

Also, up until yesterday, you could go to someone's profile and click on "Find latest started threads" and it would display the threads that that member started. I used that feature a week ago for my own profile when I was searching for a thread that I started quite a while ago and it listed (as far as I could tell) every thread I ever started here. Now, today, it only yields "connection to 65.60.41.218:9312 failed (errno=110, msg=Connection timed out)". AB, I know it wasn't perfect, but can you please ask Steven to at least get the search feature back to the way it was before yesterday when it was still yielding good results?

Agree with everything said here. I have been using the local search feature extensively to good effect. I second the request to the board admin to get it working again.

I sent Steven a PM about this and he replied to me last night. As far as I can tell, there is nothing sensitive or confidential in his reply so I'm posting it here. BTW, I'm impressed with his quick response to my PM/concerns. I just tried the search feature and it does seem to be working again--at least to some degree as Steven described....

"I am in the process of rebuilding the default search system as I took the sphynx system off line. We had Hostboard back and ready last weekend but just as we were about to release the software VB released a security patch that broke the software. Of course the updated files they noted in their release notes did not include everything as the patch included more files and no notes about them.

Anyways search should start to come back as it rebuilds the database. It will take some time but you should start seeing results already. We are looking at trying to get the Sphynx back this coming weekend.
